I think it's about time to update my main fandoms list.
First of all, Doctor Who finally made it to the top of the list. And my within-fandom OTP has changed. Twice. The first time thanks to Sarah Jane Smith (no, she's not actually in the pairing), and the second... I started considering the pairing because of TV Tropes, but I didn't support it until a certain phone call. So now I have 2 OTPs, both of which put the Doctor with another long-time character. And one of them is definitely Canon.
A recent addition to my fandoms is a game that can create worlds more complex than any in Minecraft. And then it displays them (and everything else) in ASCII. (Unless you decided to get proper graphics or the Lazy Newb Pack.)
Dwarf Fortress.
I've been spending an absurd amount of time recently looking after my little dorfs. Who never seem to understand what I actually want them to do. (Kinda understandable in the injured dorf who went stark raving mad and took all her clothes off and then died of thirst when she wasn't actually that far away from where the alcohol was kept. But she was a special case.) This, unfortunately, leads to "You can stockpile items later. I need [building] as soon as possible. That doesn't need to be built yet. Neither does that. And that can wait. Just build the bleeping [building] already!" Insert 'Trade Depot' for [building], and have the traders arriving, and you can see how this could get annoying.
Also, I've had the peculiar situation of one dorf lying in a bed to heal, and another one climbing into that same bed to sleep (and even claiming that bed). What made it even weirder is that both dorfs were the same gender.
But I think I'm starting to get a hang of the basics.
Interesting fact: apparently DF has about two games worth of content, and it's still in alpha. As in, the version(s) before beta.
And the zip file with the most recent version (which I don't think is compressed all that much) is under 10 MB. Which is smaller than many N64 games (which were on cartridges, which were much smaller than CDs).
And it's all made by one guy. Well, his brother helps with ideas. But all the programming is one guy.
Next, NetHack. A game that can apparently take up to a decade to win for the first time. Also gives you a screen full of ASCII.
I think I'm slowly learning the lesson not to eat enemy corpses/read unidentified scrolls/wear unidentified armour/do anything at all to a nymph or a leprechaun/underestimate the floating eye for the nth time.
Lastly, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. I blame TV Tropes. (And a MLPFIM/Ace Attorney crossover that I discovered through TV Tropes.)
In other news, my list of fics-in-progress is growing. I've postponed most of them. I'm even considering Retconning away some of them.
Generic Title is still going. There's another with a spoileriffic working title that's also continuing (but in a different word processor, since OpenOffice kept screwing with my formatting; if I set the font as Goudy Old Style, I want it to stay as Goudy Old Style, not revert to Courier New for a single punctuation mark). I've started one that's heavily inspired by (but not a fanfic of) Eversion. And I've got a Doctor Who/LoZ Majora's Mask crossover that I started about 24 hours ago. Plus one where the Storyteller has to get a temporary replacement for the Narrator for a story; the story itself is one I wrote about 5 1/2 years ago, and it's bad, so I'll be making fun of it (it's also unfinished, which is just begging for a massive derailment).
Also, I've started making a list of things to keep in mind for NaNoWriMo this year. It's an interesting list. Kinda resembles the Mr Welch list (mainly in the 'done it once, so not allowed to do it again' idea). Except it's more like guidelines (like the Pirate Code).
Here's a few items from it (links not present in the original version) (kinda spoileriffic in a Noodle Incident kind of way):
...Yeah. It's a weird list.
And, just for fun, only one of these was not inspired by last year's NaNoWriMo. Try to guess which one.
EDIT: I (finally) updated my list of shippings.
116 different shippings! Ye gods...
